“Is this Joshua Tree Town?” is one of our next independent projects and it’s a documentary telling the never heard story of Joshua Tree town’s evolution from a small humble heart of climbing and hippie artists to a hub of Yuppies, modern bohemians, and social media influencers.

The documentary will tell the stories generation attracted to the area, focusing mainly on famous groups of rock climbers and artistsThe movie will tend to explore the complexities and contradictions of the urban renewal of the city and the possible clashes between the new generation of people interested in the area and the values and cultures of the old communities.

Where the Idea Came From

The idea for creating this documentary was raised when Ali, the director, found a great opportunity where his two main passions, movie making, and rock climbing, can meet. Joshua Tree has always been one of Ali’s favorite places. After making a lot of trips to Joshua Tree National Park for climbing Ali built connections with the community of climbers and artists from different generations that felt unique to him. He was also surprised that even within the short period of three years that he’s been living in Joshua Tree how fast the face of the town and the park was changing. So, he got interested in the community, the history of the town, and the underlying causes for the fast changes in the area and the community of climbers which brought him the idea of creating this documentary.
